Meet the Makers.
RICK TANTON, HEAD OF PRODUCT
“You idiot, you drink it.” Fateful words uttered to Rick by a friend after he’d purchased Waterloo Dark for a party because it had a pig on the label. Thus began a love affair with beer that has now seen Rick enjoy well over 5,000 different brews, visit over 200 breweries, and for the past decade, brew his own at home. Rick is also a judge at the ONHops Brew Off, has launched some of Canada’s largest beer brands as an advertising strategist, and holds two Ontario Beer Awards Gold Medals and a World Beer Award. He lives in a former wedding dress shop with his sons Rhett, Preston, and very patient wife, Katie.

MIKE LEE, HEAD OF BRAND
Mike’s first job at the age of 13 was catching chickens for local farmers. 11 years later, he created his first advertising campaign for the Egg Farmers of Canada. Coincidence? Probably. But nonetheless, for the last 18 years he has worked as an award-winning art director, creative director and designer at some of the top advertising agencies in Canada including Leo Burnett, McCann Canada, TAXI Canada, and Bensimon Byrne.
Mike co-founded Something in the Water over beers with his partners in the winter of 2019. It has allowed him to combine two of his biggest passions – great design and beer – and has thankfully been very thirsty work.
First Beer: Labatt 50
Favourite Beer: Left Field Greenwood IPA
Favourite Style: IPA
STEVE WAUGH – HEAD OF OPERATIONS
Steve’s craft beer journey began 12 years ago when a clogged aerator caused his second home brew to explode in his condo bedroom. He rightly turned his focus on beer appreciation instead of brewing (he is currently on his 3rd level of Prud’homme beer certification). Steve loves brown ales and completely dislikes IPAs. A career ad man, Steve left advertising to co-found Something in the Water. His focus is operations (production, business development, and finances). The only thing he loves more than beer is his wife Stacey and three kids Riley (5), Chelsea (3) and Aiden (3).
First Beer: Molson Golden
Favourite Beer: Big Rock Traditional
Favourite Style: Brown Ale
